Relay for Life "In Loving Memory of Murray Granard" (papa)

Cameron and I had the wonderful chance to join in on a Relay for Life, with my cousins in Bakersfield last weekend. We lost my step dad Murray last November to cancer and my cousins lost their grandmother and mother in-law to cancer as well last year. What an experience it was. It is a 24 hour walk to raise money to help find a cure for cancer, and to help those fighting their battle with cancer right now, or that have lost their battle with cancer that we are their to honor them with love and support. Our team was called "The Wild Bunch" and we sure were wild. We had 27 members on our team and joined in all day with big smiles and high fives to all the survivors wearing their purple t-shirts. The 24 hour represents that there is no finish line until we find a cure. So, 1 member should be walking the course at all times for 24 hours, taking shifts here and there. Cameron and I were troopers. We started walking after the opening ceremony at 8am with the James and Ethan, and ended after midnight when the boys fell asleep in the jogger stroller. One of the most memorable moments was the luminary lighting at 10pm. All the lights on the campus were turned off and all of the names of our loved ones were written on white bags with candles in them, shining. We miss Murray so much and shared our loss with so many others that evening. Our team raised the most money out of all the other teams, we raised over $16,000! If any of you have ever lost a loved one to cancer, I so encourage you to get out there and show your love by walking with those who are fighting it right now. It was such an amazing day!
